In a remarkable tale of bravery and determination, a premature new-born fought for his life against all odds and emerged triumphant. Barkan, a 34-year-old woman, arrived at Laniado Hospital in week 27 of her pregnancy, accompanied by her husband Maor, due to abdominal pain. The diagnosis was pre-eclampsia, a serious condition that necessitated immediate hospitalisation.

Only two weeks after admission, the doctors in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Laniado Hospital realised that the baby was in distress, prompting an urgent need for an emergency caesarean section. The medical team swiftly responded, prepared for any unforeseen challenges that might arise during the delivery.

During the surgery, an unexpected complication emerged—a rare case of appendicitis. The doctors skilfully addressed the situation, successfully resolving both the appendicitis and delivering the baby safely. The new-born, named Benaya by his loving parents, faced an uphill battle from the moment of his birth. Weighing a mere 800 grams, his survival and thriving development were uncertain.

We are so grateful to all the team at Laniado for helping us bring our baby home.

But Benaya's fighting spirit proved indomitable. For 93 days, he received round-the-clock care within the NICU, as the dedicated medical team worked tirelessly to ensure his well-being. Against all odds, he defied expectations and grew stronger with each passing day. Finally, the day arrived when Benaya, now weighing an incredible 6 pounds, was deemed ready for discharge from the hospital.

The journey was arduous, testing the strength of both parents and baby, but their unwavering determination and the exceptional care provided by Laniado Hospital's medical team prevailed. As they embark on the next chapter of their lives, we extend our warmest wishes to Barkan, Maor, and their little miracle, Benaya.

May their future be filled with health, happiness, and endless blessings.
