Laniado Hospital, located in Netanya within Israel’s Sharon region, provides essential medical services to a population of 500,000. Its maternity unit, which handles over 8,000 births annually, ranks as one of the largest in Israel and continues to see increased demand. In comparison, St Thomas' Hospital has one of London's largest maternity services and has 6,000 babies born each year. Despite its high patient load, Laniado's maternity unit currently offers only partial shelter, a significant concern given security risks from Hezbollah to the north and Hamas in nearby Tulkarm, a mere 15-minute drive from central Netanya. This context underscores the urgent need for a fully protected maternity facility.

Established in the summer of 1975, Laniado welcomed its first birth on June 21, 1976, marking a historic moment for the hospital's founder, the Klausenberger Rebbe. A Holocaust survivor who had lost his family, he proclaimed at that birth, “Let this be my revenge on the Nazis.” In its founding year, Laniado celebrated 868 births. Today, it reaches over 8,000 annually.

The expansion of the maternity unit will more than double its capacity. Key additions include:

• 1,900 square meters of new space
• 25 amenity rooms with 42 beds
• A dedicated doctors' wing with offices and consultation rooms
• A spacious dining hall for patients and family members
• A specialised treatment room to free up surgical spaces for non-urgent procedures

Following the recent expansion of our delivery centre, this new development will enable us to support an additional 1,000 births each month.

Work is well under way with Laniado international raising £6.5 million of the £7.5 million required. As part of a matched campaign on December 8th and 9th, the UK branch aims to secure £500,000 of the remaining £1 million to finalise this critical expansion.
