For the first time in the hospital’s history, five pairs of twins are being treated simultaneously in Laniado Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) – an all-time record for the department, which has been operating for decades.

The premature babies, weighing between 1,400 and 2,900 grams, were born between 31–36 weeks of pregnancy. Their parents are residents of the Central and Sharon regions. Alongside these five pairs of twins, the NICU team is also caring for a set of triplets born at 33 weeks.

Laniado’s NICU is one of the largest in Israel. Located in a modern, fully protected complex, it includes an intensive care unit, an intermediate care unit, and a preparation-for-discharge unit. It is equipped with state-of-the-art medical devices and also provides dedicated spaces for families, enabling parents to remain close to their babies around the clock.

Dr. Aryeh Simmonds, Head of Neonatology and NICU, together with Ms. Eti Littig, Head Nurse of the Prenatal Care Unit, commented:

“We are privileged to care for premature babies of all sizes and gestational weeks. Many parents choose to give birth at Laniado, even when their babies face known clinical challenges, because of their trust in our multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff. After so many years in the unit, it is exciting to be treating so many pairs of twins at once – as well as triplets – and we work tirelessly to ensure every premature baby goes home as soon as possible, healthy and ready for life.”

Mr. Nadav Chen, CEO of Laniado Hospital, added:

“Just four years ago, we inaugurated the new neonatal ward in a secure, purpose-built facility equipped with the most advanced medical technology. Our aim was to provide the highest level of care for newborns while giving mothers a sense of safety and reassurance. This neonatal ward is part of a wider expansion of our Women’s and Maternity Department, which now includes 12 new delivery rooms, a paediatric emergency unit, new gynaecological operating theatres, and soon, a third maternity ward. The confidence so many mothers place in us is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our staff.”
