As Laniado Hospital approaches its 50th anniversary this June, the milestone is not only a moment of reflection, it is a declaration of continued growth and responsibility. This year, the hospital marked a transformative achievement: the opening of its newly expanded and fully sheltered Maternity Unit.

From the very beginning, maternity care has stood at the heart of Laniado’s mission. On June 21, 1976, the first patients were welcomed with the inauguration of the original maternity ward, an event that founder Rabbi Yekusiel Yehuda Halberstam described as his personal “revenge on the Nazis,” after losing his wife and eleven children in the Holocaust. In its first year, 868 babies were born, each one a symbol of renewal and hope.

Nearly five decades later, that same spirit guided the completion of the new, expanded Maternity Unit. Designed to meet the needs of a growing population in Netanya and the wider Sharon region, the modern facility significantly increases capacity while elevating standards of comfort, safety, and clinical excellence.

Critically, the new unit is fully sheltered and fortified, ensuring uninterrupted care even during times of security tension. In today’s reality, resilience is not optional, it is essential. The ability to bring new life into the world in a protected, state-of-the-art environment reflects Laniado’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding both mothers and newborns under all circumstances.

The opening of this unit in the hospital’s 50th year carries powerful symbolism.

The opening of this unit in the hospital’s 50th year carries powerful symbolism: the department that launched Laniado’s journey has now been renewed and strengthened for the next generation.

Yet the work is not finished.

Looking ahead, Laniado is now setting its sights on the next critical priority, the construction of a new, fully sheltered Emergency Room facility. As a frontline hospital serving a rapidly expanding region, the need for a modern, protected ER has become increasingly urgent. Such a facility will ensure that emergency care remains accessible, advanced, and secure at all times.

From a single maternity ward in 1976 to a modern medical center preparing for its next phase of expansion, Laniado’s story continues to unfold. As the golden anniversary approaches, the message is clear: this is not only a celebration of 50 years of healing,  it is a commitment to building the protected, forward-looking healthcare infrastructure that the next 50 years will require.
