New heating and cooling project will save thousands of dollars
“A large medical center like Laniado requires huge amounts of energy to heat and cool the departments and operating theatres,” says engineer Moshe Klein, director of infrastructure at the hospital. “Therefore, management invested a great deal of time looking into the most cost effective air control system available that would meet the strict requirements of a large medical center ”
At the end of the investigation, which was coordinated by Klein, it was decided to replace the chiller system that supplies energy to Laniado Hospital’s west wing with a new system.
"The cost of this project is very high,” adds Klein. “Fortunately, the Department of Energy recognizes the importance of saving energy and has contributed to the purchase. The system is unique in that it reuses the hot air that is exhausted and turns it into heat water. Thus, we save on the energy costs and the investment will pay for itself within three years.“
The new chiller system joins a recently installed control system that detects empty rooms and shuts the air conditioning units down, thereby saving unnecessary energy.
