To mark the 40th anniversary of the Laniado Hospital, Laniado UK are raising money for the Cardiac Department. The centerpiece of this amazing department will be a brand new Catheterisation Machine. 1000 stent operations are carried out each year by this machine in this department. These operations are under threat if this new machine is not purchased.
Our appeal is to ensure people like Chana (pictured below) can be treated quickly and effectively when faced with an emergency situation. Back in 2009, Chana was preparing for Shabbat with her daughter at her home in Netanya when she suddenly felt sharp shooting pains in her chest. She immediately knew that it was a heart attack and was rushed to Laniado. She received an emergency operation and was given a coronary stent allowing her to make a full recovery.
Currently, our Heart Institute includes 6 beds in the intensive cardiac care unit, 12 beds in the Intermediate Step-Down unit and 18 beds in the Department of Cardiology totalling 36 beds. We have eight cardiologists, and five physicians. There were 3500 hospitalisations last year alone of which 1600 were in the Intensive Cardiac unit. On average, patients will need to stay for 3 days in the hospital for care and observation.
Last year, thanks to a generous donation from the Weinstock Foundation, the hospital was able to open the new Weinstock Cardiac Rehabilitation Centre. Below is a short film of Hagit who suffered from severe pulmonary and cardiac problems. Before being admitted to Laniado she was unable to walk far and even a short trip to the shops was impossible. Now thanks the care she has received at in Laniado's new cardiac rehabilitation centre she has her life back and is able to live it to the full.
