Professor Michael Nowak, a world renowned endocrinologist from Germany, recently delivered a lecture at Laniado Hospital’s Bildirici Diabetes Center. He is an expert in the field of innovative medicines – medicines based on hormones in the gastrointestinal tract that affect insulin secretion by the pancreas. Dr. Nowak performs his main work at St. Josef Hospital in Germany and he is also a member of international diabetes associations based in Europe and the United States.
Dr. Nowak spoke to endocrinologists on staff at Laniado, as well as specialists from other hospitals and health funds in the Sharon region. The lecture was a continuation of the ongoing relationship between Dr. Nowak and Laniado Hospital’s Diabetes Center, headed by Dr. Mark Niven. In January 2012, Prof. Nowak came to Israel as Laniado’s guest to speak at the second International Bildirici Conference.
A discussion between the endocrinologists and Dr. Nowak followed the lecture, at which they presented him with medical dilemmas that arise in the course of their daily work.
“I was very happy that Dr. Nowak agreed to lecture to our staff and others,” said Dr. Niven. “Diabetes is the greatest epidemic in the Western world and we must continue to research this disease and develop drugs to counter its damaging effects. Dr. Nowak’s lecture added an important new layer to our professional knowledge and we intend to continue our professional contact to benefit of our patients.”
