Dr. Ofer Arbel has been appointed director of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Laniado Hospital. The 44-year-old doctor brings significant experience to his new position, having served as a senior physician at Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center and at Sheba Medical Center (Tel Hashomer) in Ramat Gan, as well as director of Magen David Adom’s Medical Call Center.
Laniado’s Department of Emergency Medicine has over 80,000 emergency cases a year, necessitating the best treatment in the shortest time. “My vision for emergency medicine in Israel in general and at Laniado specifically is to adopt the integrated ‘case management system’ used worldwide,” says Dr. Arbel. “This method, in which one doctor coordinates the patient’s entire treatment, allows patients to get all the medical, nursing and social intervention from one professional who is the central address for them. This enables us to reduce internal hospital procedures while enhancing patient satisfaction. Whether it's some type of medical consultation or examining complex imaging results, the patient and his family have one person to turn to for all the answers and test results."
Dr. Arbel notes that this system, which enables the efficient management of emergency rooms is relatively new to Israel and ERs throughout Israel are still learning how to adapt to its work procedures. Upgrading emergency rooms is a priority for Health Minister, MK Rabbi Yaakov Litzman, who has allocated significant human resources and increased funding for infrastructure improvements for this purpose, and is making unannounced visits to examine the situation on the ground.
"I congratulate Dr. Arbel for his willingness to take on such a complex position and wish him success,” said Laniado CEO, Rabbi Chaim Hammerman. “His success will be the success of the entire region."
