Building work starts for $3 Million Dialysis Centre
For patients suffering from renal disease, dialysis is a lifeline. At present 90 patients aged between 18 and 93 come to Laniado up to three times a week for treatment, for several hours each time. Laniado is in the process of building a new dialysis department four times the size of the present department. As well as allowing the treatment of more patients in a more spacious environment, the new department will include a special room for patients who require isolation due to contagious disease such a hepatitis etc.
Since dialysis patients are unable to walk during their session and cannot reach shelter in the event of an attack, the new dialysis unit will be located on an underground floor, specially fortified and secure against all types of warfare. Planned in close coordination with the Israel Defense Forces Homefront Command and the Ministry of Health, the unit will serve as a regional dialysis centre in case of disaster.
