Laniado celebrates 40 years since the laying of the foundation stone
Memories of 1974...
Manchester United were relegated from the Football League First Division, McDonald's opened its first restaurant in London, pocket calculators first appeared in shops and the foundation stone for the new Laniado Hospital in Netanya, Israel was laid.
At that time, Netanya was a small but popular seaside resort with only 80,000 inhabitants. Now the population is almost 300,000 and Laniado is the town’s only hospital.
Laniado began as a small medical centre founded by the illustrious Klausenberger Rebbe Zt’l, Rabbi YY Halberstam. A holocaust survivor, the Rebbe envisioned a hospital dedicated to the Jewish tenants of belief in the sanctity of all life regardless of race, religion or background.
Laniado now treats over 100,000 patients each year. His vision was for Laniado to be more than just a regular hospital therefore he created a set of guidelines and principals that would remain constant in an ever changing and increasingly frenetic world. Highlights of the principals include employing staff that respect the sanctity of all life, for the hospital to be permeated with a spirit of peacefulness, love and devotion, and for the hospital to be run according to Jewish law.
We will be marking this our 40th year with a number of events and hope to raise enough money to purchase a brand new Cath lab for the Cardiac Department.
